Special events include a two-day jewelry and fiber trunk show with Barbara Briggs, painting demonstrations by Jane Chukas, a book signing and reading by Katherine Fischer, and a Holiday Open House. In addition every Saturday in December, BRIO will be serving refreshments from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.
December 3rd and 4th from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m., Barbara Briggs will host trunk shows of new work, showcasing one-of-a-kind handmade jewelry and knit woven scarves and garments. The first evening guests may fill out a “My Personal Favorites” card for the BRIO staff to share with their “significant others” the following evening. While everyone is welcome both evenings, there will be special assistance for gentlemen shoppers on Thursday.
December 6th from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m., BRIO’s Holiday Open House will highlight Jane Chukas, oil pastel artist, and Katherine Fischer, author. Chukas will be painting in the gallery throughout the open house. Fischer will be signing copies of That's Our Story and We're Sticking To It, co-written with Rebecca Christian, from 4:00 to 5:30. From 5:30 to 6:00, Fischer will read from this collection that promises to leave 'em laughing—and crying. A great stocking stuffer, the book is an accumulation of over forty years of combined writing experience of articles and newspaper columns that originally appeared in national venues such as the New York Times, Christian Science Monitor, National Public Radio, and in regional publications including the Telegraph Herald, Des Moines Register and Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
Other special holiday offerings at BRIO include blown-glass ornaments by Patricia Breen Design, water colors by Harold Gregor, hand-carved gourds, jewelry by Arden Nowers, a mink teddy bear, and unique foil prints. And of course, works by popular artists Beth Bird, Sandra Principe, Gerard Erley, Nancy Lindsay, Susan Palmer’s gestural drawings, and exquisite bronzes by Burl Jones and J.R. Eason.
