New Works by Sandra Principe

Galena, IL- June 09, 2008- BRIO Art Gallery will present an exhibit of new works by floral artist Sandra Principe Friday beginning Friday, June 27 and running through Sunday, August 3.

Principe's oil paintings capture the timeless beauty of flowers closely observed. An avid gardener, she raises the orchids and most of her other floral “models”. This affinity with her subject contributes to the special spark in her work. The all-floral show includes Principe's elegant signature orchid paintings. There will also be many of her highly popular miniatures as well as medium and large canvases. Principe's paintings are reminiscent of the American painter, Martin Johnson Heade.

Her works are in numerous private and corporate collections and have been shown in solo shows across the country, from West Palm Beach and Vero Beach, Florida to Laguna Beach, California. With her work now in great demand, there is a waiting list for commissioned paintings. She is represented by Meghan Candler Gallery in Vero Beach, Florida; Collector’s Fine Art Gallery in the Grand Hyatt, Kauai, Hawaii; and BRIO Art Gallery in Galena, Illinois.

Principe will conduct a painting workshop at the Galena Arts and Recreation Center on Saturday, July 12 and Sunday July 13. As well as an artist, she is an author of a mystery series about the Galena area and will be a speaker at the North East Iowa Writers Retreat in Dubuque on August 9.

The opening reception for the Principe show is at BRIO on Friday, June 27 from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. She will be available to discuss her art work and sign copies of her books that evening and on Saturday, June 28 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.

BRIO Art Gallery, located at 116 South Main Street in Galena is open from 10:00 to 5:00 daily and carries paintings, bronze, glass, jewelry and other media by more than 25 regional and national artists. For more information, call Marsha at 776-1010.
