Music was Jane’s first art form. She taught music in public schools and gave private lessons in voice. Ten years ago, she began making visual art.
Jane says, “I wish I hadn’t waited so long to get started.”
Most of her pictures come from her imagination.

As she describes it, “Inspiration comes to me in flashes. I doodle. I see the possibility of a picture and generally start with a sketch, allowing the piece to develop as I work. I’m never quite sure how it will come out since somewhere along the line, the image seems to take over and direct its own progress. This staying ‘present in the moment’ allows for freedom and growth with each piece.”
She strives for strong design, dynamic color and simplicity and works toward an abstract element within the framework of representational art. Jane prefers humor to pathos.”
She currently works with oil pastel on a black surface, generally on hand-prepared pastel board or watercolor paper and enjoys experimenting with different mediums and grounds.
Her work is in galleries, corporate, and private collections in Iowa, Illinois, the state of Washington, Virginia, and Missouri.
